Taking a Look at Immigration to America - 656 Words

I moved from India to the United States of America in 2001. My dad had gotten a job here so we all shifted from India to the U.S and have been living here since. We emigrated from India to here. Immigration is the process of moving from one country to another. People will immigrate for different reasons. There are two types of immigration, legal and illegal and there are different visa types for people immigrating into the country. People who are moving to the United States are legally immigrating because they come here for different reasons. There are offerings here that other countries do not have. Legal immigrants have the option of applying for permanent residency if they have lived here for a long time. A green card is a card that allows immigrants to permanently live in the United States and it may take a few years to get it. â€Å"In the year 2012, 15,900 ‘other immigrants’ made up 2% of others who had received LPR’s† (Auclair, Batalova). While ther e is legal immigration, illegal is more dangerous. Sometimes, people immigrate illegally for unknown reasons. There are certain characteristics that distinguish immigrants. For example, legal immigrants tend to follow to visa requirements and processes before coming to a country. Illegal immigrants do not do this and will come into the country directly.
